Donald Lee Wehunt passed away early morning November 7th, 2024. He was surrounded by his loved ones in his home during his final days; He showed great honor and strength during such vulnerable times.
Donald began his life in San Jose on December 26th 1947 with his parents Lucille and Paul, eventually moving to Shasta County in 1953.
He had seven siblings: Raymond, Bill, Ronald, David, Katherine, Donna, and Gayle. He grew up in Anderson, CA where he worked with his father at Paul’s Garage throughout his youth. He attended Anderson Union High School and graduated in 1966. After graduating high school, Donald looked to serve his country in the Navy and also attend Shasta College. He eventually went to serve in Vietnam with his brother Bill, where he stayed offshore on the USS Kitty Hawk.
He worked in several departments such as: culinary, engine, and elevator maintenance. Donald eventually came back to California, stationed in Southern California where he met his first wife Anita Barnett. Donald brought Anita and their two children, Patric and Davonne, back to his hometown of Anderson, CA.
Donald briefly took over his father’s garage while serving the Army Reserves, and shortly after they had Dawnielle. He supported his hometown with his love of baseball, holding the role of Anderson Little League President; Donald established girls’ softball into the Little League in 1980. Donald carried on his mother’s love of serving at the VFW Post 9650 Anderson, CA. He became the commander of the VFW 9650 at only 28 years-old, he served on and off for a total of eight years. He even held the role of District Commander in Northern California for a year. He eventually began his career in Prison Corrections which he did for 16 years traveling from Soledad, Susanville, Grass Valley, and Lewiston. He retired from the Military in 1992, ranking all the way to a First Sergeant E8 doing a total of 26 years of service.
Donald met Diane at the VFW and they married in 1999 spending years sharing their love of traveling; she passed away in 2013. Donald endured a lot over his life; losing loved ones at such a young age, surviving a brain tumor and years of cancer. He always showed honor and loyalty to those he loved. Donald shared a strong and loving companionship with Jessie Wilsey all the way until his passing. He is preceded in death by: his mother; Lucille, five brothers; Ronald, David, Raymond, Gayle, and Bill. His sister, Katherine. His wife, Diane Wehunt. Donald is survived by: His sister, Donna Adair. His Three children; Patric Wehunt (wife: Amie) Davonne Wehunt, Dawnielle Cramblet (husband: Jason). His Five grandchildren; Andrew Wehunt, Eryk Wehunt, Marisah Wehunt, Tanner Cramblet, Logan Cramblet and his great-grandchild Julian Wehunt. His four Nephews; Jason Wehunt (wife: Karen), Jason Jr. Wehunt, Eric Julien and Carter Barnes. His eight nieces; Kimberly Barnes (husband: Jim), Deedee Wehunt, Christine Wehunt-Gibson (husband: Ed), Wendy Guetti (wife: Gina), Nicole Adams, Sunshine Stevens (husband: Adam), Maddy Barnes-Baker (husband: Brayden) and Emma Barnes. Three Step-Grandchildren; Mariah Sarot, Vincent and Dominic Lozoya.
The Ceremony will be held at 2pm on December 18th at Northern Veterans Cemetery in Igo, CA. Following the ceremony, the Celebration of Life will be held at 9650 VFW Post Anderson, CA around 3:30 PM.
